a global organization dedicated to eliminating health inequities in women with cancer

February 2026 – National Cancer Awareness Month

February 4th. 2026 World Cancer Day “United by Unique”

Today, join the World in observing a day to advocate for prioritizing the elimination of cancer globally. Use social media, donate to cancer organizations and join community events that promote cancer awareness and education. United by Unique focuses on uniting to create a world without cancer by celebrating the unique stories of every person affected by cancer.

In honor of World Cancer Day, thewomen.org is sponsoring a cervical cancer screening program for women vendors and customers in the two largest markets in Monrovia.

Please use this month to focus on what you can do to reduce your cancer risks, such as maintaining a healthy weight through increase in physical activities and healthy diet, limit alcohol intake, and engaging in smoking cessation programs, making appointments for screening programs, avoiding direct sun and getting vaccinated (HPV, hepatitis B).

Globally breast cancer is the most common cancer diagnosed in women, and it is the most common cause of death. Over 2.3Million new cases and over 650,000 deaths occur worldwide each year. In the US lung cancer is the leading cause of death in women. Breast, lung and colon cancers are the three most common cancers in women accounting for over 50% of all the new cases diagnosed in women. New cases of colon cancer are also steadily increasing in under fifty-year olds. Screening is available for all three cancers (mammograms, low density CXR, and colonoscopy).
